The IUPAC name of 2-Nitro-5-methylpyridine is 5-methyl-2-nitropyridine . With the CAS registry number 1074-38-0, it is also named as 2-Nitro-5-picoline ; 3-Picoline, 6-nitro- ; 5-Methyl-2-nitropyridine ; Pyridine, 5-methyl-2-nitro- ; 3-Methyl-6-nitropyridine . Its product categories are pyridines, pyrimidines, purines and pteredines. 2-Nitro-5-methylpyridine as an example provides a genaral definition of the 5-methylpyridines to be used as starting materials for the process according to the invention.

 2-Nitro-5-methylpyridine can be obtained by 5-methyl-pyridin-2-ylamine . First, it react with concentrated sulfuric acid , aqueous hydrogen peroxide , sulfur trioxide . Then, in the CH2Cl2, the substance react with molecular sieves 3 Angstroem and tBuOOH catalyzing by Zr(OtBu) at ambient temperature for 20 hours.
