5-Fluoro-2-methoxybenzaldehyde can be produced by reaction of 1-fluoro-4-methoxy-benzene with bis-chloromethyl ether for 8 hours under ambient temperature.


The 5-Fluoro-2-methoxybenzaldehyde can also react with malonic acid to form (E)-3-(5-fluoro-2-methoxyphenyl)propenoic acid under room temperature for 16 h, 60 deg C for 4 h; and 100 deg C for 3 h.
