It also can be called Brasilin ; Benz(b)indeno(1,2-d)pyran-3,6a,9,10(6H)-tetrol, 7,11b-dihydro- (VAN) (8CI)(9CI) ; and 7,11b-Dihydrobenz(b)indeno(1,2-d)pyran-3,6a,9,10(6H)-tetrol . It is a red pigment obtained from the wood of the brazilwood family. Many members of the genus Caesalpinia produce brazilin, including brazilwood (C. echinata) and sappanwood (C. sappan).
