The IUPAC name of Clopamide is 4-chloro-N-[(2R,6S)-2,6-dimethylpiperidin-1-yl]-3-sulfamoylbenzamide . With the CAS registry number 636-54-4, it is also named as 4-Chloro-N-(2,6-dimethylpiperidino)-3-sulfamoylbenzamide ; Adurix ; Aquex ; Brinaldix ; Chlosudimeprimyl ; Clopamida ; Clopamida [INN-Spanish] ; Clopamidum ; Clopamidum [INN-Latin] ; DT 327 ; UNII-17S83WON0I ; Benzamide, 3-(aminosulfonyl)-4-chloro-N-(2,6-dimethyl-1-piperidinyl)-, cis- . This product must store at 2-8 °C. It is soluble in methanol (1:35), ethanol (1:100), chloroform (1:250) and water (1:250).
Clopamide is a piperidine diuretic which is used to treat salidiuretic and antihypertensive. Clopamide is a kind of thiazide drug and it acts in similar way as the thiazide diuretics do. It acts at the Proximal Convoluted tubule site of the nephron where it inhibits the sodium-chloride cotransporter. Clopamide selectively binds at the chloride binding site of the sodium chloride cotransporter in the PCT cells on the luminal side and thus intereferes with the reabsorption of NaCl and thus causing an equiosmolar excretion of water along with NaCl.
By the research, it was conformed that both clopamide and pindolol are used together, the beta-blocker can probably counterbalance the diuretic-induced negative effects on blood lipids. It is also concluded that treatment with clopamide may induce some changes in Cu and Zn levels in normal hypertensives, particularly in WBCs. Further investigation is needed to determine the extent of this influence.
